I am an A2 student at Enfield County School studying English Literature, Fine Art and Photography alongside Media Studies. After A Levels I hope to continue my interest in media, film and TV by going to university.

Magazine Advert
Final Draft:
The magazine advert at the top was my first attempt, in this I used a colour image, after creating my digipak and using only black and white I wanted to continue this theme, therefore in the second magazine advert I used only black and white contrasts. I used Photoshop to put this together and did so, in order to create transparency and harsh contrasts, to reflect the genre and conform to the extreme editing styles I found during my research process.
I incorporated the band name and used the biggest font to do so, and then smaller fonts the less significant or important. I used an ITunes download sticker and website to attract my target audience and I decided on the locations based on where band like mine usually perform.
Digipak
My original digipak did not have aside panel and did not display the album name.
First draft:
The second image is of the inside panels of my digipak, I again chose an image from our music video, however this time I have used an image which refers to the band, specifically the lead singer who is also the protagonist of our narrative music video.

Digipak Inspiration
Digipaks generally have between 2-8 panels. Usually the standard is 4.
Here is an example of a digipak which is for the rock artist 'TV on the Radio':

Audience Feedback
After receiving audience feedback last time for our ending and overall concept, we found it to be useful and decided to ask people what they like and think needs improvements in what we have achieved so far.
Here are the responses to the questions 'What went well?' and 'Even better if?'
Here are the responses to the questions 'What went well?' and 'Even better if?'
After receiving this information we decided to get footage (a low angle close up/mid shot) of the male protagonist dropping a rock, to suggest how the female protagonist dies. We also repeated some of the opening shots at the end to remind the audience that she is now in spirit form and we also lengthened the shot of the protagonist walking into the guy at the end so it is more obvious what has happened.
During our music video showcase we had audience members fill out a form to say what they thought went well and what didn't work as well:
Here is a good example of an audience member critiquing our music video:
If I was to make improvements I would include more paramedic scenes to make the idea more obvious to the eye that the protagonist is dead and create a more dramatic scene as well as adding in a scene where the protagonist gets up and runs away. We attempted this however I feel it could have been more successful.
Half Term
Over half term I have had some commissioning opportunities such as photographing Barristers in London. Here are some of my photographs:
By taking on this task and opportunity I was able to get inspiration and ideas on what compositions work and how I can develop my framing and angels in our music video.
I also had the opportunity to interview and film successful pub owners in and around London which is footage I have been commissioned to then edited together into three videos on how to start and develop your own business, which is to be put onto the William Read Business Media website and the Heineken website.
Here are a couple of location and set up shots I took and the finished products will be uploaded when complete.
Editing
Laura and I did some editing recently and found editing to the beat of the music to be specifically difficult, as well as cutting out a minute of the instrumental, making sure it still flowed smoothly. Here is us editing:
To differentiate between the representations of our protagonist we used black and white colouring and the 'romantic' filter for the past, we increased the contrast for 'the dead' scenes and kept the footage normal for the present:

A2 Inspiration
Taking inspiration from other A2 music videos we have decided to incorporate hand held camera wok using depth of field so the audiences focus is on the protagonist:
We also like the way this long shot was used and edited so that the shot is broken up and not one long continuous shot:
Both of these ideas from this A2 video are things we will use when filming and editing our own music video.

Plan
Here are some of this ideas we liked from the Maroon 5 video incorporated into our music video plan:
Inspiration
Maroon 5's music video to their song 'Maps' inspired us to incorporate ideas they used in their video and fit it to our narrative.
We like the fact that the video began with the ending of the narrative, giving the audience hints as to what has happened but not giving it away fully until shown again at the end, linking everything together.
Within this idea we enjoyed the fast pass of a series of close up shots, as if to create confusion and keep the audiences guessing. This also being edited to fit the beat allows the narrative to move from a short story to a music video with interesting shots and angles.
We also liked the use of hand held footage to fit the theme of fast passed and tragedy, as well tilted camera angles to also portray this idea.

Rule of Thirds
The rule of thirds is one of the main “rules” in art and photographic composition and stems from the theory that the human eye naturally gravitates to intersection points that occur when an image is split into thirds. In the rule of thirds, photos are divided into thirds with two imaginary lines vertically and two lines horizontally making three columns, three rows, and nine sections in the images. Important compositional elements and leading lines are placed on or near the imaginary lines and where the lines intersect.
When editing our prelim, we did not consider the rule of thirds, however looking back on our outcome, shots where this rule was applied makes the composition more pleasing to the eye, in contrast to the central shots, which the more you look at, the more flaws in the symmetry are noticeable.

After realising how much of a different the rule of thirds made in our prelim, we decided to incorporate this composition in our music video.

Editing
Here Laura took a photo of our group editing the footage from Trent Park on IMovie. Everything so far is as we hoped and is working much better than our previous footage, however we feel we may need to go back and film some more and include one other location to add more interest than just tree and greenery footage.
Band Name and Song Title
Ways in which we tried to create a name included websites such as this one which helps generate words and ideas: http://watchout4snakes.com/wo4snakes/Random/RandomWord
Our group as finally settled on a band name and song title. Our Band Name with be 'Enemy's Song' and our song name is 'Half Remain.'
Enemy's Song was chosen using the lyrics of the song however the song name was adapted from the lyrics to suit the theme and narrative or our music video. 'Half' came from the fact that she's dead however her sprit still 'Remain.'
Trent Park
During the Christmas break we travelled to Trent Park to film for our music video. Here are some shots of us at location and setting up:
Here is our shooting schedule that we used during this time:
We chose to use an outdoors location as the natural lighting and harsh contract between the sunlight and the dark trees added to our concept of death and mystery.
